Italian energy giant Enel is preparing to build a massive solar and cell plant in the United States. This is reported by Enel North America (Enel group). The cost of the plant could approach or exceed $1 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The plant will be built through 3Sun Usa ein the initial stagewill make solar panels capable of generating up to 3 gigawatts. In the final phase, the intention is to have panels produce up to 6 gigawatts. For the construction of the new plant, Enel will be able to take advantage of the incentives offered by the Biden administration. The plant will be one of the first in the United States to produce modules and photovoltaics, key elements in solar panel production, which Washington currently imports primarily from China.
The production of cells and panels could start as early as 2024
Enel is rumored to be exploring potential construction sites in the Great Lakes region of Texas, prioritizing locations where it can move quickly to begin operations. The construction site will be identified by the end of the year, while production of cells and panels could start as early as 2024. The US plant will represent Enel’s second photovoltaic panel production facility worldwide. The company previously announced the expansion of its 3Sun Gigafactory in Catania, Sicily, increasing production capacity from 200 MW to 3 GW.
