Covid, Iss: Incidence rising, Rt and hospital occupancy falling

Based on the data that emerged from the usual weekly monitoring by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Iss) and the Ministry of Health, the incidence of Covid-19 cases is increasing in Italy this week. Instead, the Rt infection index shows a slight decline from the previous week. In particular, the weekly incidence at the national level has increased to 277 per 100,000 inhabitants (considering the period August 19-25, 2022), compared to 260 per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous 7 days. In the period August 2-15, 2022, taking into account the mean Rt calculated on symptomatic cases, the value was equal to 0.74 (range 0.71-0.77), a slight decrease compared to the previous week. The transmissibility index calculated on hospital admissions also decreased, from Rt 0.77 on August 9 to 0.75 on August 15. The employment rate in Italian hospitals

Also at the national level, the report showed that the labor force participation in hospitals is both in intensive care and in the regular wards. Specifically, according to the Ministry of Health’s daily survey of 25 August, the labor force participation rate in intensive care fell to 2.4%, from 2.7% on 18 August. The employment rate in the medical sector fell to 9.4% nationwide, from 11.0% on August 18.

Stable percentage of cases detected with tracking

On the other hand, both the percentage of cases detected by contact tracing (13% vs. 14%) and that of cases detected by the appearance of symptoms (45% vs. 45%) are stable compared to the previous week. percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities (42% vs 42%).
