The World Toilet Day (“World Toilet Day”) is an international day established by the United Nations in 2013 to raise awareness of the sanitation crisis around the world. Today 3.6 billion people, or 45% of the world’s population, still live with poor quality sanitation, with serious consequences for their health and the environment. Even the youngest pay a very high price: every day more than 800 children under the age of 5 years they die from diseases related to unsafe water and the poor sanitation in the places where they were born.

“Making the invisible visible”

The 2022 campaign, entitled “Making the invisible visible”, explores how inadequate sanitation they spread human waste into rivers, lakes and soil, polluting groundwater supplies. A problem that seems invisible precisely because it still exists underground and in the poorest and most marginalized communities groundwater is the most abundant source of fresh water in the world. They support clean water supply, sanitation, agriculture, industry and ecosystems. As the planet’s climatic conditions deteriorated and the population grew, it became groundwater increasingly important for human survivaltherefore it is essential to invest so that everyone can access it safely.
