Candidates were nominated in the first round by a wide range of sports community and industry professionals, including prominent Olympic and non-Olympic federations, sports organizations and sports journalists. After counting the votes received in the first round, the jury approved the nominations of the nine candidates who received the most votes and were sent to the popular vote.

In the Beijing Olympic Games luge sport, bronze medalist Kristers Aparjods, skeleton player Martins Dukurs, basketball players Rihards Lomažs and Kristaps Porziņgis, and figure skater Deniss Vasiļjevs are applying for the Beijing Olympic Games athlete. year award.

Latvian Basketball Federation, Latvian Football Federation and Latvian Luge Sports Federation claim the title of sports federation of the year, but Liepāja State City, Riga State City, Sigulda County Municipality and Valmiera County Municipality can be Sports Federation of the Year.

In total, the awards will be presented in the form of 14 nominations, two of which are the new nominees “Sports Family of the Year” and “Youth Coach of the Year”.

The winner of the “Sport Teacher of the Year” nomination is determined by the Ministry of Education and Science, while the candidates for the “Lifetime Investment in Sports” nomination are nominated by the LOK, Latvian Paralympic Committee (LPK) and Latvia.
