The only thing missing was the official status, the farewell statement. That too has arrived. It’s really over between Ferrari and Mattia Binotto, the announcement of Maranello establish a relationship that began 28 years ago when the Swiss-born engineer from Reggio Emilia entered the company as an intern and then climbed all the steps of the pyramid. He fell from the top, he had been in the balance for a while, relations with John Elkann and with CEO Benedetto Vigna were not always stormy and second place in the Constructors’ Championship, and in the Drivers’ Championship, was not enough to to repair. Binotto had become team principal in 2019 replacing Maurizio Arrivabene, already under the chairmanship of Sergio Marchionne he had held important positions and took over technical coordination.

A new phase begins for Ferrari, a new year zero and whoever arrives later (Fred Vasseur remains on pole) is called upon to win the title: the last dates back to 2008 (constructors) with Stefano Domenicali as team principal. In the farewell statement Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari who should temporarily take Binotto’s place, underlines: «I want to thank Mattia for his numerous and fundamental contributions in the 28 years spent at Ferrari, and in particular for his driving behavior that brought the team back to competitiveness last season. This puts us in a strong position to renew our commitment, first and foremost to our incredible fans around the world, to win the most important trophy in motorsport. Everyone at the stables and in the wider Ferrari community wish Mattia all the very best for the future.”
For his part Binotto wanted to thank all the employees with whom he shared his 28-year career Maranello: «It is with the regret that this entails that I have decided to end my collaboration with Ferrari. I am leaving a company I love, which I have been a part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the belief that I did everything I could to achieve the goals I set. I leave behind a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I am sure, to achieve the highest goals, which I wish all the best for the future. I think it’s good to take this step, even if it was a difficult decision for me. I thank all the people in sports management who have shared with me this journey, which is full of difficulties but also of great satisfaction ».
