During the 2023 World Ice Hockey Championships, approximately 26,000 passengers were transported between Latvia and Finland. “airBaltic” Corporate Communications Department reported that this was 42% higher than the corresponding period in April.
42 flights operated between Riga and airBaltic’s home city of Tampere (33 in April), carrying around 12,000 passengers, an increase of 73% over the previous (standard) month. High demand was also observed for “airBaltic” flights between Riga and Helsinki (approximately 12,000 passengers, 23% increase) and Turku (more than 2,000 passengers, 32% increase).
As previously reported, following the historic success of the Latvia men’s national hockey team and demand from fans, airBaltic airline announced eight additional flights between Riga and Tampere on 27, 28 and 29 May.
