Latvian hockey player Christian Rubin will continue his career in the Swedish hockey league (SHL) “МОДО” team, the club reported on Tuesday, June. 6.
Helping Latvia win the bronze medal of the world championship by scoring two goals in the decisive match against the USA, Rubin signed a one-season deal with “МОДО”.
Rubin started this season with the Ottawa Senators farm club and scored six (2+4) points in 42 games in the American Hockey League (AHL).
He was then traded to ranch club “Calgary Flames”, with whom he made two transfers in three games of the regular season. In the Calder Cup, the Latvian scored one goal and provided two assists in six games.
The 25-year-old defender made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut last season, playing three games for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Rubin entered the Maple Leafs system in August 2018 when he signed an ECHL contract with the Newfoundland Growlers team. Less than three months later, he signed his first contract with the AHL.
At the junior level, Rubin played in North America for the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) “Medicine-Hat Tigers” team. Even before that, he played three seasons in Sweden.
“МОДО”, whose goal Gudlevskis defended in the final series last season, won Sweden’s second strongest league (Allsvenskan) and earned the right to play in the SHL next season.
