It is Max Verstappen who wins the Sprint Race in the Imola GP. His Red Bull overtakes Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari on the twentieth lap of twenty-one in total on the circuit of Sant’Elmo. The race of Verstappen and Leclerc
“Very bad” the start according to Verstappen, who complained about “too much skidding”. Then the comeback, although he remains grounded: “I know tomorrow will be different, but today it went better with these compounds. I’m glad I had a clean sprint race,” he said. Leclerc instead admits that he “struggled with the tyres” and had to “analyze everything for tomorrow and make sure we are ready”.

Fifth and sixth place for the McLarens of Norris and Ricciardo. Bottas’ Alfa Romeo rounded out the top ten, followed by Magnussen’s Haas, Alonso’s Alpine and Schumacher (Haas).
The sprint race
Imola is the first Sprint Race of the three scheduled for the current World Championship. Big news compared to last year: it determines the starting order for the GP. Whoever arrives on pole earns eight points. Then it drops to one point for eighth place. The next sprints are those of the Austrian GP (Saturday 9 July) and the Brazilian GP (Saturday 12 November).
