The MacBook Air is Apple’s best-selling portable computer today. The computer, which has always bet on thin looks and the fact that it’s lightweight, is celebrating his 15th anniversary since its introduction.
If you look at the latest MacBook Air, it looks like just one slim portable computer out there. But when it launched in 2008, it was truly a revolutionary product.
First MacBook Air announced at Macworld Expo 2008
Steve Jobs launched products in his style at Macworld Expo 2008 in San Francisco. And he wowed the entire audience when he pulled the product out of the envelope he was holding next to him, you can relive the iconic moment in the video below.
At the time, the MacBook was touted as the thinnest notebook in the world. “We built the world’s thinnest notebook without sacrificing a full-sized keyboard or a full-sized 13-inch his display,” he said.
MacBook Air was the first laptop with a multi-touch trackpad
Recall that the original MacBook Air hit the market with a single USB port, a 3.5 jack input, and a Micro-DVI port. It was also the first notebook to drop the port for CD or DVD and allow the use of SSDs.
It was also the first Apple product to test one of the great strengths of portable computers: the multi-touch trackpad. There were many “firsts” in one product.
Also worth noting is the specification of the 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It had 2 GB of RAM and 80 GB of internal storage. Of course the price was very high. It was released in the US for $1799.
