How to accelerate the transition of companies and infrastructure? Siemens’ recipe is called Xcelerator, an intelligent platform that is able to take companies by the hand and guide them towards a “double” transition, energy and digital, in the world of industry, infrastructure and mobility.

What is and what is Xcelerator

“Xcelerator is a platform – explains to Sky TG24 the president and CEO of Siemens Italy Floriano Masoero – consisting of a marketplace, a curated portfolio of hardware and software solutions and an ecosystem of companies participating in the development of shared applications within this platform. The advantage is that we will already be using integrated solutions that will allow us to accelerate digitization and transform these companies faster”. In other words, it is a system that uses the most innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things , the digital twin and the metaverse, allowing ever-increasing integration between the real world and the virtual world. A launch that, unsurprisingly, takes place at a crucial period around the PNRR theme, Masoero explains: “From our point of view do we see Italy as a country that is becoming more and more dynamic and attentive to this type of transformation, and we want to be active in this field and help companies in the challenge of digitization”. What can be done through this type of platform? To just to give a few examples: you can imagine a robot that, thanks to neural networks, can integrate future products into an as yet undeveloped system; or some other robot that imagines in a kind of Metaverse to manage products that do not exist because they are still in the design phase, and when they arrive on the production lines, they are then automatically recognized by neural networks and by experience gained in the virtual world. Xcelerator, explains from Siemens, is an ecosystem made of hardware, software and applications that is easy to understand, scalable according to the type of business and needs, plug in and playflexible, with an open marketplace where you can find ideas, products and solutions.

Xcelerator solutions

Most of the solutions and activities are designed for the industrial world, as Giuliano Busetto, Head of Digital Industries of Siemens in Italy and President of Siemens Industry Software explains: “Industrial X, within Xcelerator, will be that wallet where we go to feed all existing applications in, the use caseto demonstrate to customers the benefits of digitalization that bring flexibility in production processes, performance and attention to sustainability”. Xcelerator, concrete application examples

There are several systems that can be “touched” made in collaboration with Siemens. Synapses, an Italian start-up active in 16 countries, presented a software solution dedicated to corporate buildings designed for the new hybrid working methods: through an app, each employee can book rooms, desks, tools, parking spaces, lunch in the canteen , buy open tickets if something doesn’t work and manage lighting and air conditioning independently by using the geolocation of each individual room to reduce energy consumption based on outside temperature and lighting.

Another very interesting example is EPF, an industrial automation and construction company for electrical systems from renewable sources, which presented an industrial Metaverse that, as we wrote before, can be used for the design of new systems: thanks to algorithms and neural networks, machines will be able to learn Metaverse and then adapt their behavior to real world situations.

Finally Nemo’s Garden: a start-up company focused on sustainable underwater plant cultivation that has created an underwater biosphere capable of harnessing the positive environmental factors of the sea – temperature stability, production of water by evaporation, CO2 absorption, abundance of oxygen and intrinsic protection against pests – to create an ideal environment for cultivation. Studied and developed an idea that made full use of the technologies of the digital twin that, they explain to us, enabled the team to replicate and test the project at a very accelerated pace.
