Digiwatt, what it is and how the energy awareness app works

Must read

From the start-up Veos Digital comes an application that can monitor the operation of every single device in the home, making consumers more aware of consumption and also enabling them to participate in an energy community

Digiwatt is an application launched by Veos Digital, a start-up operating in the software production and research and development sector, which enables greater awareness of household energy consumption. Through the use of artificial intelligence algorithms, Digiwatt breaks down the consumption of each household appliance, signals any deviations and indicates best practices to use less and better energy. That’s not all: the app also helps citizens who want to join an energy community. But let’s go in order.

How Digiwatt works

“Digiwatt – explains Simone Geravini, CEO of Veos Digital to Sky TG24 – is an application that, connected to a sensor, is able to understand the consumption in a house. For example, the user can use his smartphone to gain insight into, for example, the consumption of the washing machine, the dishwasher and each individual device in the building. This – continues Geravini – provides a great deal of awareness and leads to progressive energy savings as it provides a whole range of recommendations to help reduce consumption”. To access Digiwatt you need to install a smart meter, a sensor, in the electrical panel of the house (an operation that can be carried out independently with a minimum of familiarity with the electrical system – but there is also a remote assistance system and the possibility of requesting the intervention of a technician). communicate with Digiwatt’s servers via WiFi for ten seconds by sending general consumption data. Then “the magic” happens: by proprietary algorithms – trained by models of machine learning and artificial intelligence – specific consumption is recognized and consumption is also forecasted for each monitored device”. The cost of the service, per subscription, is 60 euros per year.

The benefits and energy communities

“To date, bills – explains Geravini – are seen as a burden and people are hardly aware of consumption. Via Digiwatt, on the other hand, the Kilowatt hour item can be converted into ‘how much it costs to do the washing machine at 10 o’clock’. Through the app it is also possible, among other things, to make comparisons with similar families in order to understand whether we spend more or less on average”. , etc.) because families and companies can show their interest in this new way of energy management, to reduce the impact on the environment and also the bill. The solution, on sale since September 2022, has attracted the interest of hundreds of users and, in the coming months, a new version of Digiwatt will be introduced, especially for small and large companies, which – they assure us – can maximize energy efficiency without disrupting daily office activity.
