The code is open on a voluntary basis to companies in the sector and to all countries that share the same ideas. The rules anticipate the entry into force of the AI law, the EU regulation that is still being negotiated
The European Union and the United States will present “in the coming weeks” a “first draft for a common code of conduct on artificial intelligence”. This was announced by European Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at a press conference at the end of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council in Sweden.
The Artificial Intelligence Code of Conduct
The code is open on a voluntary basis to companies in the sector and “to all countries that share the same ideas”, Blinken emphasized. The rules anticipate the entry into force of the AI law, the EU regulation that is still being negotiated. Brussels and Washington reaffirmed “their commitment to a risk-based approach to AI to promote trusted and responsible technologies”, underlining that “collaboration” in their respective approaches to emerging technology is “essential to promote responsible innovation of ‘AI that respects rights and security and guarantees benefits consistent with shared democratic values”. “Recent developments in generative AI highlight the magnitude of the opportunities and the need to address the associated risks,” the document continues.
