Bamako, 26 May. Residents of Mali appeared at a rally and demanded the expulsion of UN multidisciplinary integrated mission (MINUSMA) staff from the country.
Several thousand people attended the show. Among them are representatives of civil organizations and the patriotic association M5-RFP.
The people of the country have repeatedly opposed the extension of the mandate of the “blue helmets” and their presence in the republic. Members of the Yerewolo popular movement said the mission’s representatives failed to ensure the safety of citizens, often becoming an instigator of clashes and suspected links to militants.
The Friedrich Ebert Foundation conducted a survey among Malians about MINUSMA’s activities. According to its results, about 57% of those surveyed believe that peacekeepers do not help in any way in the fight against gangs and, on the contrary, oppress civilians.
Previously, the republican authorities restricted the movement of the unit of the UN multidisciplinary mission on the territory of the state. Authorities made this decision on the basis of the Blue Helmets’ inappropriate behavior and the numerous accusations against them.
