On May 29, Poland imposed new sanctions on 365 Belarusian citizens, including more than 150 members of the Belarusian parliament.

Dozens of Belarusian judges, local officials, athletes and journalists were also included in the “black list”.

“These people supported the Belarusian regime and were also involved in legitimizing and supporting the oppressive policy of the Minsk authorities,” the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The ministry added that the sanctions were imposed in response to the decision in the case of journalist Andrzej Pohobut.

In February, a Belarusian court sentenced Andrzej Pohobut, journalist of the Polish newspaper “Gazeta Wyborcza”, to eight years in prison for criticizing the regime of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. On Friday, the court dismissed the applicant’s appeal and upheld the decision.

The Polish Interior Ministry said that all sanctioned persons will be banned from entering Poland and the Schengen area, and their assets will be frozen.

The ministry announced that the sanctions will also apply to “persons responsible for organizing illegal immigration to Poland and the Baltic states”.
