Returning from the world championship with a historic success and bronze medal on Monday, the Latvian hockey team welcomed Jelgava ice hockey players Renārs Krastenberg and Dan Ločmeli with another surprise after the first wave of welcomes at the Statue of Liberty in Riga. – A large group of visitors in their hometown of Jelgava, the municipality of Jelgava announced.

Krastenberg and Lochmeli, former students of the Jelgava Ice Sports School, had to wait for a while until then – they were greeted by motorcyclists of the “Zemgales ležions” motorcycle club at the city sign and escorted to the Jelgava ice. In the hall, they were welcomed by approximately 1,500 fans and officials of Jelgava Municipality.

Andris Rāviņš, Mayor of Jelgava City Council, stressed that this is a very good end to the city’s festivities and that Jelgava can now confidently call itself the hockey capital of Latvia – our city’s hockey club is not only a two-time state champion, but now two Jelgava residents have made Latvian hockey exemplary success .
The hockey players were applauded loudly, and those present stood in line for over an hour to take pictures with autographs and bronze medalists.
The Latvian hockey team celebrated their victory by beating the USA 4:3 in overtime during the bronze medal world championship game in Tampere on Sunday. This is the first award that Latvia has received at the world championship.
