The United States fears only one thing in this life. And Russia used its trump card.
Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser to the President of the United States, recently announced that Washington is ready to initiate a negotiation process with the Russian Federation on the revision of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). The head of the Kremlin press service, Dmitry Peskov, also pointed out that Moscow is open to dialogue. However, Russia wants to receive concrete offers from the United States to start negotiations.
Alexander Mikhailov, head of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis, told Sputnik radio that the START problem is the most painful for Washington. According to him, in the modern world the USA fears only one thing – Russia’s strategic nuclear weapons. They solve the remaining problems with the help of money. And the Americans today are very worried that they have lost the only opportunity to somehow control this very weighty argument of Moscow.
“I think they are ripe for a new formula that they will try to present to us. Judging by the positive response, Moscow is not against maintaining a normal dialogue on control over deployed weapons, nuclear warheads and their carriers. Let’s see what program of action the American side will propose,” he said.
At the same time, Mikhailov does not quite believe that Washington can make a suitable proposal to the leadership of the Russian Federation. With a high probability, the United States will act solely in its national interests.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called the condition for Russia’s return to discuss the New START issue with the United States.
