Higher resolution satellite images became available after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
After Russia’s comprehensive invasion of Ukraine, all strategic facilities of the Russian Armed Forces, such as ammunition storage bases, training grounds, command posts and missile launch silos, became visible on Google Maps. This was announced by Army Inform on Monday, April 18.
According to journalists, images of strategic facilities on the territory of the aggressor state, which could not be viewed in good quality before, can now be viewed at a resolution of 0.5 meters per pixel. Specifically, you can now see on digital maps:
- The construction site of the only aircraft carrier in the Russian Federation “Admiral Kuznetsov”;
- a nuclear storage base near Murmansk;
- flight test center of the RF Ministry of Defense with fifth generation Su-57 fighters;
- silo launch for intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs);
- base of operational-tactical missile systems “Iskander”;
- Russian submarine base in Kamchatka;
- the basis of mobile ICBM complexes “Topol”;
- airbase near Kursk;
- 1295th central storage base for Russian armored vehicles;
- possibly the command center of the strategic missile units;
- The heavy nuclear cruiser “Peter the Great” of the Navy of the Russian Federation.
The publication states that such images will not have “strategic value” for ordinary Internet users, since images captured by military satellites have a higher resolution.
Recall that on February 28, four days after the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, it became known that Google temporarily disabled the ability to receive traffic data in Ukraine on its maps for security reasons.
We also wrote that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, together with Google, digitized the results of the occupation of Russian troops in the destroyed Ukrainian cities.
