Comb your hair before shower

Regardless of your hair texture, detangling your hair before you shower will make them stronger. “Your hair is more prone to breakage when wet,” Brooke explains, “so always comb through tangles when dry.” Another benefit: When brushing dry hair, the scalp’s natural oils are distributed from the top to the ends of the hair. In this way, your hair will be almost ready to be styled after a shower!

Use hair conditioner sparingly.

Unless your hair is very long (not like Rapunzel), a dime-sized amount of conditioner will suffice for most hair textures and lengths. “Apply conditioner to the middle and ends of the hair first, and then to the scalp,” advises Brooke. It is important to make sure that the scalp is hydrated as well. Let it sit for a full minute before rinsing. If you’re a fan of dry shampoos, this is especially important to prevent dry scalp.

Make time for hair masks

To keep your locks moist and smooth, “use a moisturizing hair mask or deep conditioner at least once a week, and more often if you use hot tools regularly,” says Brook.

When choosing your hair care products, narrow your options in search of strengthening ingredients that will nourish your strands. Brook recommends adding coconut oil, argan oil, aloe, or spirulina to your diet.

Eat as balanced as possible

You already know what you eat. “Your hair is mostly made up of protein, so it’s important to eat a balanced diet of protein-rich foods,” says Brook. If possible, add these items to the menu.

Brooke recommends going to the hairdresser every two months, and if you have a short or defined haircut, you’ll probably need to do it more often.
