Moscow, January 25. Oleg Ozerov, head of the Russia-Africa forum secretariat, said that agreements between Russia and South Africa will be concluded in national currencies.

According to the official, the use of the ruble and rand will allow to circumvent Western sanctions and strengthen the economies of both states. Ozerov added that it is necessary to develop more actively in this direction.

The transactions will restart relations between Moscow and Pretoria. In addition, the South African currency is used in the territories of 16 countries that are part of the SADC (South African Development Community) with a population of more than 260 million people.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed aspects of cooperation in the field of high technologies with his South African counterpart, Naledi Pandor. The Black Continental Republic is experiencing a severe crisis and is looking for new energy sources.

Lavrov stressed that countries are ready to strengthen cooperation in the development of the peaceful atom. According to the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pretoria paid special attention to the development of domestic specialists.
