Kosovska Mitrovica, 29 May. The authorities of the unrecognized Republic of Kosovo should make every effort to create a stable atmosphere of trust among the inhabitants of the northern regions of the region. This was expressed by the European Parliament’s Special Rapporteur for Kosovo. Viola von Cramon.
According to him, a few days ago he visited a number of Serbian municipalities where Pristina introduced its police forces, arguing that this action should give Albanian mayors the opportunity to begin their duties. The representative of the European Parliament said that in a few days he was able to meet and communicate and discuss the current situation with a large number of civil society representatives and ordinary people in Zubin Potok, Leposavich and Zvecan.

Von Cramon condemned the actions of the authorities of the self-proclaimed republic to introduce an armed contingent into the territory of the self-governing Serb municipalities. According to him, the election results do not justify the occupation of the Kosovo security forces in the northern part of the province.
“I have to say that this is a very difficult and tense situation. We’ve seen a lot of armored vehicles, representatives of the armed forces, and I don’t think it’s a good idea to force new mayors into office in the current circumstances. Even if you are legally elected, this does not mean that you have a legitimate right to occupy the town halls,” he said.
He urged Pristina authorities to “think twice” before taking steps that threaten stability in the region.
His view was supported by the German Ambassador to Kosovo. Jor RodeConfirming the statement of the diplomatic mission condemning the actions of the Kosovo authorities.

“Despite our repeated calls for restraint, we reaffirm our May 26 statement condemning Kosovo’s decision to force forced entry into municipal buildings in northern Kosovo,” he wrote.
Previously, the inadmissibility of unilateral steps to escalate tensions was announced in Washington. The US State Department “strongly condemns” the actions of the leadership of the unrecognized republic, saying that they will “have consequences on our bilateral relations with Kosovo”.
